Josie Rogers & Giles King-Smith - Ambrose Follows his Nose

This year sees the centenary of the birth of the acclaimed children’s author Dick King-Smith.  Dick’s son Giles and his great granddaughter Josie are coming to the festival to talk about this wonderful writer’s life and share excerpts from his many entertaining and internationally bestselling books.

Dick King-Smith spent twenty years as a farmer before becoming a primary school teacher.  Awarded an OBE for services to children’s literature, he wrote over 130 children’s books including The Sheep-Pig (filmed as Babe) and The Queen’s Nose.  His family recently discovered Ambrose Follows His Nose, a typically charming and gently funny unfinished animal story revolving around a bunny with incredibly powerful nostrils.  Completed by Josie, the book has been published to celebrate the 100 years since this enduringly popular author’s birth.  (Ambrose Follows His Nose for reading age: 5 - 8 years)

Interviewing Giles and Josie will be Judith Byrne.  Judith has been a bookseller, a teacher and a director of an organisation specialising in qualifications for less advantaged adult students.  She is also a trustee of the festival.

This promises to be an entertaining event for all ages.
This event is sponsored by Witten Park Vets

During the day there will be various children’s entertainment from Entertainingly Different’s Rob Pudner.  You and yours can catch him at various venues around Appledore, in various guises, for some family friendly fun and interactive antics including circus skills, songs, surprises and some silliness. Ask one of our stewards for more information if you want to know where he will be.
