Jailhouse Jazz

This month, we are thrilled to be introducing Sara Oschlag to the Jailhouse, and look forward to some dazzling fresh interpretations from this very talented young singer.
Vocals- Sara Oschlag
Guitar- Jason Henson
Double Bass- Dan Sheppard
Danish born Sara Oschlag has been hailed a ‘musician’s singer’ due to her wonderful way of using dynamics, texture & rhythm. An intelligent interpreter of songs in the jazz tradition, she displays a maturity beyond her years in her song selection as well as her interpretation. Whether swinging hard or caressing a ballad, Sara takes the listener on a journey, breathing new life into the old standards.
She brings a freshness to every song in her repertoire and her unique breathy style matched with an unfussy and unmannered clarity ensures that the emotional weight of every word and note is fully valued and delivered.
Sara’s influences include Anita O’Day, Shirley Horn, Nancy Wilson, Carmen McRae, Sarah Vaughan.
She will be playing alongside Dan Sheppard on Double Bass and Jason Henson on the guitar, both well acclaimed Jazz musicians. Jason has played with many of the world’s finest musicians, including the late great US legend Joe Lee Wilson, as well as Bobby Wellins, Jo Hunter, Jim Mullen and many more. He travelled with Jonny Hepbir to the gypsy campsites in Holland and Germany to play with some of the grand masters of gypsy jazz, and you can hear some of their incredible techniques incorporated in his playing.
Dan Sheppard has also played Bobby Wellins, Jon Etheridge, Jim Mullen and many more and it is his impeccable time & all-round understanding of music which landed him in the band with the late, great Jimmy Scott at one of his last appearances at Ronnie Scott’s.
This promises to be an exciting evening of fresh interpretations backed by truly experienced musicianship.
