Exercising in later life: the view from the social sciences

Physical activity is increasingly recommended to promote health and happiness. Sociologist Emmanuelle Tulle and her collaborators draw on 15 years of research, discussing the physical, social and historical barriers and opportunities for older adults to be physically active, while also making a plea for the right to sit down.
