The Canterbury Shakespeare Festival - Antony and Cleopatra

Shakespeare's Anthony and Cleopatra is summed up perfectly by the RSC as a "tragedy of love and duty". Rome is ruled by an uneasy triumvirate of Mark Antony, Octavius Caesar and Lepidus, but Mark Anthony, smitten by the beauty and mystery of Cleopatra neglects his duties and slights his Octavius Caesar. Jealously and broken promises, fuel the coming conflict and lead to inevitable tragedy.
