Details of sessions included in the course:
Session 1 – Fri 6-7.30pm, RGS
Introduction, Pedagogy and technical fundamentals:- The role of a conductor- How we lead and influence the sound a group makes at all levels, even in the very earliest stages
- How to conduct beat patterns in different time signatures, dynamics and articulationsSession 2 – Fri 8-9.30 pm, RGS
An opportunity for 4 delegates to conduct for 15 mins each followed by review discussion. Video to be taken for personal review.Session 3 – Sat 9-10.15am, WHS
An opportunity for 4 delegates to conduct for 15 mins each. Video to be taken for personal review.Session 4 – Sat 10.45-12.15pm, WHS
An opportunity for all to revisit the conducting fundamentals covered in session 1 as they conduct some string quartet repertoire followed by review discussion of sessions 3 & 4.String quartets are not usually conducted, so delegates can explore how to influence the sound without having to focus on beating time.Session 5 – Sat 1-2.15pm, WHS
Similar to the string quartet session, the wind quintet exists happily without a conductor, but this session provides an opportunity to explore breathing and articulation with the performersReview and Summary 2.15-3pm, WHS
Final review of Session 5 and summary of learning points from the duration of the course
