Cornwall String Day

Patrick Bailey - Conductor

Patrick has conducted concerts with the Philharmonia Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Britten Sinfonia, London Sinfonietta, New Music Players, ViVA, English Sinfonia, Cambridge University Music Society and many others. He has given concerts across Europe and in Dubai, India, Oman and the USA. In this country he has appeared at festivals in Aldeburgh, Brighton, Bath, Buxton and Cheltenham, broadcast concerts and opera for BBC Radio 3 and recorded for NMC and Tartan Film. Patrick taught conducting at the Royal College of Music from 2002-2008, was Learning Manager for the BBC Concert Orchestra from 2009-2011 and Education & Community Director of the London Philharmonic Orchestra from 2011-2013 prior to moving to Cornwall with his family in 2014. He is the founder and Artistic Director of Kevos and an Associate of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.

Repertoire

The aim of the day is help develop orchestral playing rather than focus on ‘note bashing’. During the day a number of pieces will be used and are likely to include:
 
·         Britten Simple Symphony 
·         Elgar Serenade for Strings
·         Walton Passacaglia ‘Death of Falstaff’ from Henry V

Venue

The string day will take place at Chacewater Village Hall, TR4 8PZ.

Parking is available on-street outside the hall or in a nearby car park at Chacewater village. We can make arrange for the drop-off / collection of double basses.

Chacewater Village Hall is fully wheelchair accessible. There is not specific disabled parking, but cones can be put outside to restrict parking thus enabling direct wheelchair or disabled access from the road at the front.  Please discuss your requirements with us.

Refreshments

Tea, coffee, water etc will be available throughout the day.

Players will need to bring their own lunch - or buy lunch in Chacewater village a short walk from the venue.

If you are unable to access the online booking site or wish to enquire about reduced rates for students / youth players please get in touch by email at cornwallconcertorchestra1@gmail.com. We want to remove any financials barriers to taking part so if your personal circumstances mean that you are unable to afford the fee for the day please get in touch by email.
