Sunday 16th June, 1912 witnessed the Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost of James Radley come to an embarrassing halt on the notorious Katschberg Pass in the Austrian Alps. This could ruin the title claimed by Rolls-Royce in 1906 to be “The Best Car in the World”.

How would Rolls-Royce restore their reputation in the fiercely competitive Edwardian era when cars were ruthlessly tested in European trials, the Alpine Trial being the ultimate prize?

Join us for dinner and an illustrated talk by Sir John Stuttard, past Lord Mayor of London and past chairman of the “20-Ghost Club”, to hear how Rolls-Royce set to the task of saving their name.

The evening will close with a short film and the recollections of one of the Barn’s trustees who, in 2023, marked the 110th anniversary of success at the Alpine Trials, an event spanning eight days and 1970kms, in a 1922 Silver Ghost .... bringing the trophy back to Odiham!

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars marks the 110th anniversary of its success in the Alpine Trial in 1913 – an event whose significance in Rolls-Royce’s legend cannot be overstated.’ – Sports Car Digest
