Grid Ref: SO 151195
Time: 9am to 5:30pm
Distance: 14 miles
Ascent: 5756ft
Leader: Paul Wyatt
Price: £13.50 (incl £5 bus fare)

This is a challenging walk with ascents and descents across open moorland and hopefully terrific views of the Brecon Beacons and surrounding areas. This walk commences by ascending the upgraded footpath to the summit of Pen-y-Fan. We then descend via the maintained footpath to the base of Cribyn and follow the path around its base to ascend Fan-y-Big. A ridge walk follows before we descend Craig-y-Fan Ddu to Blaen-y-Glyn car park for our lunch stop. Our afternoon walk proceeds along the disused railway line with views across the Talybont reservoir before ascending to Pen Rhiw-calch and onto Bryn Melyn overlook and a gradual descent to Llangynidr.

Directions to Start
Allow 30 mins from CRiC. From the front of CRiC take A40 towards Brecon and turn left opposite the Shell petrol station. Drive over Crickhowell’s river bridge and turn right follow this road for 4 miles. As you enter Llangynidr, you will pass signs on the left for the Red Lion and then a bus shelter, also on the left. Turn immediately left into the car park which is opposite the village hall. No charge.
