Starting at Pontneddfechan we will explore parts of five rivers, taking in more than eight waterfalls, a Gunpowder Factory, the site of an iron age settlement, derelict farm house, cross a river by passing behind a waterfall, walk along a path high above another waterfall, pass by a resurgence pool and silica mines to return along a disused tramway passing the Farewell Rock.

Boots with good grips and waterproofs essential as is surefootedness and a head for heights as you will often be walking along narrow slippery paths. Concentration required but not overly physically demanding.

Directions to start
Allow 1 hour for your journey. From CRiC, take the A40 towards Brecon and at the Shell Petrol Station turn left and cross the river bridge. Turn left over the bridge and immediately right through Llangattock. At the top of the village take the right hand fork signposted Beaufort. After 3 miles at T junction turn left on B4560 and travel across the moorland to the village of Garnlydan, marked by a cattle grid. As you exit the village turn left just before the bridge and at traffic lights turn right onto A4281. Keep straight on to second roundabout and then join A465. Stay on A465 for 21 miles, leave at the exit to the A4109 at Glynneath and cross the river to traffic lights. Turn right (brown signpost to Waterfalls Information Centre) and continue to Halfway House pub, to turn left (brown signpost) and follow this road to the Angel pub. The car park is just after the pub on the left.
