Walk 17 Quieter side of the Beacons

Date: Sunday 8th March
Meeting Point: Nant Cwm Llwch Car Park
Grid Ref: SO 006244
Time: 9am to 5pm
Distance: 12 miles
Ascent: 4000ft
Leader: Drew Walters
Price: £8.50

Avoid the crowds by approaching the Beacons from the north.  Via the remote beauty of Cwm Llwch there is a steady climb with a steep kick to the ridge and then on up to the summit of Corn Du.  Now a level walk through the pass of the black wind (aptly named!) and along Graig Fan Ddu ridge before a steep descent to the Neuadd Reservoir.  From here we ascend the gentle Roman Road to Windy Gap, followed by two steep ascents – Cribyn and Pen y Fan via Jacob’s Ladder.  With the highest mountain in southern Britain in the bag we will follow Cefn Cwm Llwch ridge and drop down across the valley to our start point.
