The walk explores the Skirrid and Sugar Loaf mountains above Abergavenny, and the field network between. The first section follows the Beacons Way over Skirrid (the ‘Holy Mountain’), the most easterly peak in the National Park, and on to the Skirrid Inn at Llanvihangel Crucorney. The route then leaves the Beacons Way to head west, skirting Bryn Arw before climbing Sugar Loaf.  From the summit, the route heads back east, descending gradually from open moorland and across fields to return to the Skirrid car park.

Directions to Start
Take the A40 to Abergavenny. At the first roundabout take the third exit (not Town Centre) and at the next roundabout take the second exit, over the river bridge and then at the Waitrose roundabout take the third exit onto Heads of the Valleys road, A465. At the major junction take the road to Hereford, A465. After 1¾ mile take the right hand turn at a short length of dual carriageway, signposted Skenfrith. The car park is on your left after 1½ miles.
