Walk 58 The Blorenge, Ironworks and Hill's Tramroad

Date: Friday 15th March
Meeting Point: Llanfoist Crossing Car Park
Grid Ref: SO 286133

Times: 9.30am to 5pm
Distance: 11.5 miles

The walk explores the Industrial Archaeology of the north side of The Blorenge. Crossing the Mon & Brecon Canal, we ascend steeply up a tramway incline then contour round to visit The Punchbowl on the way to The Blorenge summit. We then cross Gilwern Hill to meet Hill's Tramway at Tyla Quarry and follow it to Pwll Du tunnel and on to Garnddyrys forge. We continue along the tramroad to return down the incline to our start.

Directions to start
To get there from CRiC, take the A40 to Abergavenny. At the first roundabout take the third exit, signposted Llanfoist (not the Town Centre turning). At the next roundabout take the second exit over the river bridge and then at the third roundabout take the first exit and go under the dual carriageway. Continue straight along this road, past a Ford garage on your right and the car park is on your right, just before where the road narrows to allow priority over oncoming vehicles.
