Dunoon Jazz Festival 2018 - JazzMain with special guest Derek Paravicini

In hundreds of performances across the UK and Ireland since its formation in 2003, Edinburgh-based JazzMain has helped keep alive the jazz canon of Horace Silver, Hank Mobley, Sonny Rollins, Dexter Gordon, George Coleman and many other ‘Blue Note’-style luminaries that blazed a trail through the 1950s onwards. The band’s passion for its cool and bop-style jazz remains undimmed as it enters its 14th year in paying homage to the pioneers of arguably the most exciting and melodic jazz ever to grace the stage.
A JazzMain performance is a very engaging experience. From the moment you hear this quartet, it is clear that JazzMain really raises the bar in its phenomenal raw groove, tightness and infectious verve.

Appearing with JazzMain will be Derek Paravicini - one of the most extraordinary pianists and musicians of his generation, he is blind and has severe learning difficulties as well as being on the autism spectrum. Based in London, Derek performs regularly across the UK, and is also making a name for himself internationally having performed in venues across Europe and the United States. Derek has a repertoire of tens of thousands of pieces —all learnt very rapidly, just by listening. Beneath his quiet charm lies a fiery, creative musician, whose astonishing improvisations and dazzling technique have wowed audiences all over the world, with over a million hits on YouTube and another million on TED. http://www.derekparavicini.net/
