Live Music - AMYTHYST KIAH & MEAGHAN BLANCHARD

We are delighted to welcome the talents of two fantastic female singer songwriters to the Burgh Hall - Meaghan Blanchard and Amythyst Kiah.

Meaghan Blanchard is a hugely talented singer-songwriter from Prince Edward Island in Canada, who has sung and written songs since early childhood. Widely regarded as one of Canada's finest roots acts, she has multiple awards to prove it. The Great Escape, her long-awaited new record is a collection of powerful and deeply personal songs produed by Jim Bryson. It sees Meaghan find her true artistic voice, adding a sharp new edge to her music and building on the foundation of folk and country influences to create a unique signature sound. www.meaghanblanchard.com

The second singer on the bill, from Johnson City Tennessee, Amythyst Kiah describes herself as a Southern Gothic, alt-country blues singer-songwriter whose influences span decades and diverse styles. Combining rhythm and blues, country and old-time covers alongside startling originals with an angular contemporary twist, she bestrides both musical spheres with complete authenticity and an authority matched only by her commanding stage presence.  Channelled through her massively expressive voice, her richly layered repertoire confirms Amythyst's emergence as a hugely distinctive new artist who is currently making waves on both sides of the Atlantic. She has just completed a recording project for the Smithsonian with Giddens, Leyla McCalla and Alli Russell of Birds Of Chicago and her new album, recorded and produced in Louisiana by Dirk Powell, will be released in the autumn.
