The Gift of The Gab - a rehearsed reading

‘Some people will say anything to get what they want’

Coming to Emporium in Feb 2015, a play set in Brighton, written by a Brightonian, inspired by characters the playwright encountered during a very valuable misspent youth in the infamous Chick’s Billiard Hall and the watering holes of Brighton & Hove in the late 1970s.

The Set-Up

England 1979. Mountains of rubbish fill the streets due to the binmen strike, The Iron Lady is set to bag No 10, and the Sex Pistols have imploded. And in Rizzini’s, a backstreet Italian greasy-spoon caff in the heart of Brighton the last of a dying breed of Knocker Boys (door-to-door conmen), are each trying to talk their way into one last major score, before the law, The Sale of Goods Act, and the rapidly shifting sands of British society catch up to them. And if that score should happen to include a beguiling young waitress from Naples, then so much the better.
