Endelienta Baroque: Aboiement Continuel (‘Continual Squealing’): Music of the French Baroque

9th October
7.30pm

In 1753, philosopher and musician Jean-Jacques Rousseau directed this barb towards contemporary French music. Rousseau’s relationship with this music changed significantly over time, testament to the variety of styles that emanated from France. In this programme, period-instrument ensemble Endelienta Baroque look back at the heritage of these styles, traversing music for the Paris court and for the theatre, performing music by Couperin, Rameau, and Marais, amongst others.

Endelienta Baroque:
Caroline Taylor - Soprano
Rosalind Ridout - Flute
Maxim del Mar - Violin
Rachel Kay - ‘Cello
Seb Gillot - Harpsichord

Endelienta Baroque:
Founded at St Endellion in 2016, Endelienta Baroque comprises some of the country’s most exciting young performers on period instruments. The group is committed to involving audiences in the shared joy of music-making, and communicating music with our audiences to eradicate the austere and all-too-often “staged” nature of chamber music performance. Previous concerts have included Bach choral works in the chapel of King’s College, Cambridge, Handel arias and sonatas at All Saints’, Kingston, and collaborative performances of Bach’s B minor mass with Kingston Orpheus Choir, and Mozart’s Requiem with Blackheath and Bramley Choral Society. Future programmes include solo sonatas by JS Bach and a programme commemorating the 350th anniversary of the death of Heinrich Schütz.
