Endelienta Arts is delighted to showcase performances by our 2023/24 Future Routes cohort. Over the past year, we have been supporting five young emerging Cornish/Cornwall-based musicians and singers to develop their skills and launch their music careers. This year’s cohort includes Karum Cooper, Kitty Crocker, James Rann, Rachael Watson and Martha Woods.

ABOUT THE MUSICIANS:

Karum Cooper
Cornwall-based multi-instrumentalist and producer Karum Cooper is the creator of Webmoms, a project rich in influences across the musical spectrum. Having performed with a plethora of indie, rock and metal bands in his youth, Karum took to producing lofi-hip hop music during the 2020 COVID pandemic and has never looked back. Webmoms and the ‘Live Ensemble’ with which he performs play a nuanced and original take on lo-fi hip hop, RnB and soul that sees “sprawling passages of jazz-infused indie tumble into soulful spoken word stints with a breezy elegance”.

Kitty Crocker
Kitty Crocker is an indie, pop/rock singer-songwriter based in North Cornwall. Her music is described as “relatable yet haunting” and she’s been compared to the likes of Lana Del Rey and Laura Marling. Currently, Kitty is recording her debut EP ‘Wrong Place Wrong Time’ which is set to be released in spring 2024. This summer she worked the local festival circuit, playing at The Great Estate, Leopalooza, Tunes in the Park and Little Orchards Cider and Music Festival. Kitty is a strong acoustic performer who captivates audiences with her original storytelling.

James Rann
As a lover of folk, jazz and seventies popular music, James writes his songs to reminisce and discover the eminent sounds of the 20th century. Through original lyricism and virtuosic guitar playing that derives from Davy Graham to Mark Knopfler, James’s goal is to create something progressive whilst striving to preserve the feeling of familiarity that we still long for. James is currently working on releasing some solo music within the folk sphere with releases planned for 2024.

Rachael Watson
Rachael Watson is a 19 year old singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from North Cornwall. They are currently studying abroad in Paris. Rachael takes inspiration from many musical genres including folk, soul, and jazz, as well as their surroundings in Cornwall and Paris. They have spent the last few years creating original material and performing live across the South-West and internationally, both individually and with their band The Rakels. Their song ‘Byghan Porth’ (Cornish for little bays and coves), won the MusicEL Musically Creative Challenge competition.

Martha Woods
Martha Woods is a composer and multi-instrumentalist from Lostwithiel who grew up immersed in Cornish folk music and dance. She studied a BA in Folk and Traditional Music at Newcastle University which included a year studying at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance in Limerick. While folk music is at the centre of Martha’s creative practice, she believes that it is important not to be limited by genre, and likes to create music that everyone can enjoy.
