Frazer Theatre Comedy Club: September 2022

It’s been a long two and a half years. Governments have fallen. Pandemics have come and gone (?). There was that weird period when we all got kinda obsessed with sourdough. But, after all that time, THE COMEDY CLUB IS BACK!

That’s right, for the first time since March 2020 The Frazer Theatre Comedy Club is roaring back into action on Friday 2nd September with four fantastic standups, selected with love by your faithful comedy team from the very tippy-top of the comedy industry.

And in even better news, because there’s a cost of living crisis, petrol costs more than liquid gold and heating your house seems like an impossible extravagance, tickets are STILL just £10 in advance and £12 on the door. That’s right eight years on and not a single price rise. Are we good to you? Yeah, we’re good to you.

Appearing at the club this month are*:

Paul Tonkinson
A sensational live performer, Yorkshire man, marathon runner and former (double award-winning) Time Out Comedian of the Year, Paul Tonkinson has long upheld his esteemed reputation as one of the finest stand-ups the UK has to offer. With a unique and distinctive style, Tonkinson is noted for his effervescent physicality and skillful impressions, which bring alive exuberant, tender comic reflections on love, family and the day-to-day idiosyncrasies of 21st century living. A plethora of first class material, combined with tremendous charm and irrepressible, infectious energy make for quite a formidable talent.

Following his solo tour, he was given the opportunity to play to a wider audience, joining the mighty Michael McIntyre as a special guest on live shows around the UK. In 2013 he had the honour of joining Michael as a special guest on his global arena tour; playing to millions across the globe, as far and wide as Australia, New Zealand, Norway, Dubai, Singapore and Hong Kong. Paul joined Michael again in 2015 as special guest on the Happy & Glorious Tour; playing to sold-out crowds in arenas across the UK.

Louise Young
Hailing from Newcastle, Louise Young has quickly become one of the brightest new names on the comedy circuit. She is a regular at clubs up and down the country including the Glee Clubs, Komedia, and The Stand. Louise has supported the likes of Jason Manford and Alan Carr on their nation wide UK and Ireland tours. In 2020, she was nominated for Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year and the following year was nominated for Leicester Comedy Festival’s Best Festival Appearance. Louise was also a finalist in the Funny Women Awards in 2018. Louise has presented a weekly comedy radio show on BBC Radio Newcastle and at the 2020 Gillard Awards won a commendation for Newcomer of the Year on the station.

Hannah Platt
Hannah is a stand-up comedian, writer and Finalist of the BBC New Comedian of the Year Award in 2019. Merseyside-via-Manchester’s finest misanthrope has already been making her mark as a comic, having been described as ‘A voice of a new generation’ by The Skinny and ‘a voice with something to say’ by Chortle, never shying away from sensitive topics with brutal honesty and quick wit. Recently she has been commissioned to make a Laugh Lesson for BBC3 and written on the Now Show and The News Quiz for BBC Radio 4. She prides herself on her ability to take difficult and complex topics and turn them into sharp, refreshing gags.

Sully O’Sullivan
First landing on TV screens in New Zealand’s original stand-up series ‘Pulp Comedy’, globe trotting Kiwi Comedian Sully O’Sullivan’s been declared a highlight of the Glasgow International Comedy Festival by The Scotsman, won the International Improvaganza Tournament in Canada, featured on Australian TV’s ‘The Comedy Channel’, supported former WWE Champion Mick Foley on tour, and in 2021 soldout every single night of his 22 date Edinburgh Fringe run.
