Brassed Off

Written by Paul Allen and Mark Herman

Featuring the Croft Silver Band

Ten years after the National Coal strike of 1984, a wave of pit closures took place. Those miners still working put up little resistance.
Many had been in debt ever since the long strike, and were anxious to take redundancy money whilst it was on offer.
Despite a history of vigorously fignew datehting for jobs, the risk of losing redundancy money caused tensions and challenged principles, resurrecting deep wounds in community and family relationships.
Accepting redundancy resulted in being called ‘scab’.
Grimley colliery is one such pit set to close. It means 1200 job losses, a dying town and worse, the loss of its brass band. Redundancy is on offer.

Can Phil and his family survive the struggles?
Is Gloria just a management spy?
The brass band is the one ray of hope that holds them all together.
Can Danny the long-suffering band leader, transform the band from their lowest of expectations into British champions at the Albert Hall?

Kirby Muxloe Players are proud to present this gritty fight for survival and affection in this adult themed drama.
