12G BLACK VOICES: Celebrating Nina (12G)

Friday 12 July | 19.30

Festival favourites Black Voices return to Lichfield with their own unique take on the legendary Nina Simone, an artist whose uncompromising stance for social inclusion could not be more relevant in today's climate.  Black Voices had the honour of supporting her in concert many times in France, Germany and the UK and are joined for this special celebration by a 4-piece band and a 5-voice backing ensemble.

Featuring her classic songs, Celebrating Nina rejoices in the music, faith, love and life of a much-loved and accomplished musician and vocalist, whose artistry still speaks to everyone who hears her…

Alongside their work with Nina Simone, during their career Black Voices have shared the stage with Ray Charles, Miriam Makeba, Take 6, and Wynton Marsalis. They have also had the honour to sing for Nelson Mandela, Pope Jean Paul II, and Queen Elizabeth.  Co-founder Carol Pemberton was awarded an MBE in 2014 for her contribution to music.
