Looking Over the President’s Shoulder is a one-man play based on the real-life experiences of Alonzo Fields, Chief Butler in the White House for 21 years. From his unique insider’s perspective, Fields recalls his service to four American Presidents and their families: Herbert Hoover, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Harry S. Truman, and Dwight D. Eisenhower. Directed by Richard Mann.

Interspersed throughout the play are reminiscences of Field’s life, his family history, and his own personal dream and philosophies. Playwright James Still culled material from Field’s private papers, diaries and interviews; and with the overlay of music and historical sound bites, has created a humorous and poignant tour de force. Entertaining and educational, Looking Over the President’s Shoulder will appeal to audience members of all ages.
