Prague's Left Bank - Mala Strana Tour

This tour begins on the Charles Bridge, the centuries old link been Malá Strana and the Old Town. It's here that we introduce the early medieval history and the cultural background of Malá Strana. Having set the scene, we'll descend the steps from the bridge and begin to explore the area's cobbled street's, leading us to our first stop - the oldest church in Malá Strana - the Church of Our Lady Under the Chain.

From there, we visit our second church, the Church of Our Lady Victorious. This church is both politically important and an important site of Catholic pilgrimage, due to its miraculous state of the Infant Jesus of Prague. From here we follow on to our third church, the massive and monumental baroque Saint Nicholas Church.

Leaving churches aside for a while, we then make our way to a secluded garden, as we explore the grounds of Waldstein Palace, now home to the Senate of the Czech Republic. Emerging from the garden, we venture to Klárov, the central square of Malá Strana, before following the river bank to a disused mill that now functions as the Franz Kafka musuem. At this point we take a well deserved break, retreating to a Czech cafe for coffee and cake.

As we set off again, we continue back towards the Charles Bridge - this time passing under the bridge and on to the Kampa Island. We'll take some time to explore Kampa and having pointed out the features of the island, we cross the water once more and head toward the funicular railway at Ujezd, where we allow the cable car to take the pain out of climbing the steep hill. We finish our tour with a beer on the hillside terrace, overlooking both Prague Castle and the Old Town, and providing a spectacular view of the city.
