Steve Knightley 2017

In 2014 ‘Show of Hands’ acclaimed frontman Steve Knightley set out on a mission to play 150 village halls and ‘untapped’ grassroots community venues. His hugely successful ‘Grow Your Own Gig’ tour saw him performing at a bedrock of intimate rural venues, drawing on his treasure trove of songs of the English countryside. Then in 2015 he turned his attention from the land to the sea for his ‘All At Sea’ tour of maritime venues - all within sight and sound of the tide. Songs from both shows were recorded and two albums, ‘Off the beaten Track’ and ‘All at Sea’ emerged. In 2017 he will be combining material from both recordings for his solo ‘Landlocked’ tour. One half of the evening will feature original and traditional songs of the land and the second half will draw on his nautical themes. Knightley, who won the Best Original Song category at the 2010 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards for his biting, banker-baiting Arrogance, Ignorance and Greed, has been rated as “one of England’s greatest singer songwriters” and has a prolific back catalogue of inspired songs including the rousing Country Life (about the demise of rural living) to Tall Ships (set in a West Country fishing village) and Roots and crowd pleasers like Santiago and his Cornish miners’ song Cousin Jack.

The Guardian
