u3a Monthly Meeting 3rd April 2024

Volunteering for Orangutans with Tony Buckle

Established in 1991, the Borneo Orangutan Survival (BOS) Foundation is the world’s largest orangutan conservation organisation.  Through the BOS global partnerships, the downward trajectory for Bornean orangutans and their depleting rainforests is slowing.

The talk is based on Tony’s experience of volunteering at an orangutan sanctuary in Borneo and his fee will be donated to BOS.  He will explain to what extent the survival of these endangered and endearing primates is threatened and how we can help to prevent our second most closely related relative from following the fate of the dodo.

Coffee from 10am at the Cross Barn with the talk starting at 10.30am. You will be offered a free raffle ticket on arrival and the winner, which Tony will pick after the talk, will receive a fluffy toy orangutan - a perfect late Easter present for a small grandchild.  Your u3a will make a donation equivalent to the raffle sales to the BOS Foundation.
