La Traviata - A Political Opera? - The Christ Church Centre

A lecture exploring Verdi’s most domestic opera's political side.  Focussing on La Traviata, which Becca recently adapted for the King’s Head Theatre (nominated for an Olivier Award for their 2017 production of La bohème, also adapted by Becca), this morning’s lecture recital will discuss the ways in which the beauty and romanticism of Verdi’s music evokes a passionate and emotional response, which often masks its underlying political themes.

Accompanied by Natalie Burch.
