One-man play MONK by Laurence Holder, finds Jazz great American piano player/composer Thelonious Monk in an "afterlife state". Set in his home in San Juan Hill, New York, he revisits his existence from his childhood, until his final days on this earthly plane. The play explores Monk's obsession with Jazz music, the people who influenced him and those who he influenced along the way to becoming a legendary modern Jazz composer and pianist, who wrote classic tunes like :"Round Midnight", "Straight No Chaser" and "Well, You Needn't".
