Two stand-out artists in the world of Celtic music, Shetland fiddler Kevin Henderson and American pianist Neil Pearlman, are combining forces for a weekend of shows in the islands this November.
Support at The Dowry comes from Arthur Nicholson, a Danny Kyle-award winning singer-songwriter and a fixture on Shetland's live music scene in bands including the much-loved First Foot Soldiers and The Dead Pans.
Transatlantic duo Kevin and Neil have set stages alight from Scotland to California, with both known for a high-energy, joyful and fresh approach to their tradition, offering a combined sound that is fiery yet precise: moving from heartwrenching airs to sparkling reels in the blink of an eye.
Their debut album
Burden Lake, launched in January 2020 at Celtic Connections, features original tunes from both Kevin and Neil in conversation with traditional Shetland melodies. It received a five-star review in
The Scotsman and has been lauded as "cold pressed perfection" by folkworld.eu, while Fatea Magazine raves that the "sheer virtuosity of the musicianship is breathtaking".
Kevin Henderson draws on the rich fiddle music tradition of his native Shetland and his experience with leading bands including Boys of the Lough, Fiddlers' Bid, Session A9 and Nordic Fiddlers Bloc. "All effortless grace and skill" - Kit Bailey, BBC2 Folk & Acoustic.
Neil Pearlman is recognised throughout the Celtic muic world and beyond for his distinctive approach to piano. He has worked with many top folk musicians and is in demand as a collaborator, session musician and educator.
"A tremendous pianist" - BBC Radio Scotland Travelling Folk.
