Freedom! By Alexander L'Estrange - A Repton Choral Society Project

Calling all singers to join the Repton Choral Society!

Following November's launch of the Repton Choral Initiative across Repton Prep and Repton, we are delighted to invite friends and members of the local community to come together through the Lent Term to rehearse and perform Freedom! by leading composer Alexander L'Estrange. This piece, featuring a range of gospel and jazz numbers for choir and jazz quintet, celebrates the history of singing through the ages.

This project is open to all singers with or without experience, with rehearsals taking place in the Repton Music School from 7.30pm - 8.30pm each Thursday during the Lent Term, starting on the 11th January 2024. The performance will take place at Repton School on Sunday 21st April 2024, featuring the joint choirs of Repton and Repton Prep - and the Repton Choral Society! It will be jointly directed by Helen Winter and Oliver Walker.

To cover the cost of music hire and expenses, £25 per term is chargeable. To pay this please follow the instructions to book and pay for your contribution.

We are still very much open to new members, so please do spread the word and bring your friends. Remember that no previous singing experience is required!

Any enquiries should be emailed to music@repton.org.uk

Repton Choral Society presents Freedom! By Alexander L'Estrange

Repton Choral Initiative presents Freedom! By Alexander L'Estrange
Pears School, Repton - Sunday 21 April 2024, 7pm

The Repton Choral Initiative is proud to present a performance of Alexander L'Estrange's 'Freedom!', featuring Repton Choral Society, Repton Chapel Choir and Repton Prep School's Boys' and Girls' Choirs, directed by Oliver Walker and Helen Winter. The choirs will be accompanied by Alexander's own jazz quintet Call Me Al.

Freedom is a popular choral work for adult chorus and children's choir. This powerful and emotive work celebrates the vital role communal singing has played throughout history, bringing people together in solidarity at times of upheaval, struggle and change. From Martin Luther King's civil rights movement and the suffragette marches to the spontaneous singing of soldiers in the trenches of WW1 and the non-violent Baltic 'singing revolution', singing has played a part in changing lives for good.
