The Roaring Hundreds

Formed in Walton–on-Thames in 1986 this acid-punk acoustic folk band were an unusual act in the mid 80’s. They turned their backs on the fashion and music production values of that period, preferring to focus on a sound that took inspiration from the British folk revival of the late 60s and early 70s. Embraced by audiences but shunned by the likes of Folk Roots magazine and Radio 2’s Folk on 2, the band’s songwriter and singer Martin Ledner was chastised for having a ‘Folk voice’ and writing songs that were too traditional sounding!
Despite this, radio stations in U.S.A, Italy, Finland, Ireland, Scotland and the North and West of England gave the band and their music extensive airtime. Club gigs and festivals were where their music was loved and appreciated; sometimes, it must be said, to the annoyance of the organisers who preferred something a little more industry friendly.
The Hundreds didn’t lose any sleep over this; they were an acid punk folk band after all. Well, they are back on their old stomping ground after an absence of some 30 years. So come down and enjoy an evening of twisted folk songs, that sound like they were far too real for Cecil Sharpe to put in his collections!

This is a FREE ENTRY gig, but we will be shaking donation buckets after the gig to raise money for the charity Centre Point - The UK's leading youth homelessness charity.
