By working with Bunraku puppets, this one-day workshop will provide you with a basic understanding of the principles of puppetry including, object manipulation, creating a character, interaction with others and improvisation.
 
Bunraku Puppetry is a traditional form of Japanese puppet theatre, founded in the late 1600s in Osaka. In traditional Bunraku puppetry, three puppeteers work together to bring the puppet to life.
 
This hands-on workshop covers:
 
- The basic principles of puppetry
- Object manipulation
- Working collaboratively
- Puppetry character work
- Puppet interaction with humans and other puppets
- Improvisation skills
 
Suitable for beginners and professional performers over the age of 16, who want to learn the basic principles of puppetry - this workshop is also a fantastic opportunity for those with some puppeteering experience to refresh their skills.
 
About the course leader
 
Bee Daws is an experienced puppeteer and puppet maker, specialising in hand and rod puppetry and Bunraku puppets. As well as training with War Horse director Tom Morris, Toby Olié from Little Angel Theatre and Blind Summit Theatre, Bee was taught under ‘Fly in a pie’ founder Marc Parrett and studied Theatre Directing at the University of Falmouth.
