Led by experienced puppeteer and puppet maker Bee Daws, this hands-on workshop will focus on Bunraku Puppetry performance. Participants will have an opportunity to explore how a three-person team can bring a Bunraku puppet to life through breath, focus and fixed points. Moving on from the basics, you will explore in-depth techniques of Bunraku puppetry including object manipulation, character development, advanced movement, improvisation and creating performance.
Bunraku puppetry is an art that finds its origins in Japan - it is becoming an increasingly popular technique and one that many performers are likely to come across in puppetry jobs or auditions.
This workshop is suitable for performers and puppeteers over the age of 18, who want to learn more advanced principles of Bunraku puppetry.

Course Leader
Bee Daws is an experienced puppeteer and puppet maker, specialising in Bunraku and hand and rod puppetry. As well as receiving training from War Horse’s Tom Morris and Toby Olié, Little Angel Theatre and Blind Summit Theatre, Bee was taught and mentored by Marc Parrett. She also studied Theatre Directing at the University of Falmouth and works as regular practitioner and performer at the Shoebox Theatre. Her most recent show ‘The Girl who was Swallowed by a Giant’ was performed at the Shoebox last year.
