Music from the Movies

This concert is devoted entirely to music written for films, and operatic arias used in films.  The musical spectrum covered is wide, from Richard Rogers' South Pacific of 1958 to Hans Zimmer's Dead Man's Chest of 2006, from the vitality of West Side Story to the gentle beauty of Gabriel's Oboe by Ennio Morricone for The Mission.

Film directors have often ''borrowed'' some of their music from earlier classical composers such as Mozart, Dvoƙák and Puccini, and to sing arias from the last two we welcome back the soprano Tessa Spong who has toured the USA and the UK in opera and is also a busy oratorio and concert singer.

The programme highlights great film scores by John Williams, John Barry, Maurice Jarre, Claude-Michel Schonberg, and Andrew Lloyd Webber and includes music from:
Gladiator, Star Wars, Superman, The Magnificent Seven, Dances with Wolves, Phantom of the Opera, Song to the Moon, One Fine Day, Les Miserables, South Pacific, West Side Story, Dead Man's Chest.

Soloist Tessa Spong (soprano)
