The Last Days of the German Trade in Shetland and the Origins of a Shetland Merchant Class, 1697-1712

Join Brian Smith as he explores the remarkable connections between German merchants and Shetlanders in the period leading up to the collapse of the German trade after 1712. Using local and German sources, he will describe how this relationship supported major changes in Shetland’s commercial affairs.

Arctic Connections - Shetland Museum & Archives Highlights from the 2024 St Magnus Conference
