Our Clay Polar Animals workshop offers your child an exciting opportunity to delve into the world of Polar wildlife. Through exploring the links between Shetland and polar regions in our galleries and exhibition space, they will learn about the diverse species that inhabit these icy regions and gain an understanding of their unique adaptations for survival.

Polar Landscape Collage for Secondary 1-4


Designed especially for young artists, this exciting workshop is perfect to challenge yourself and try new techniques. A member of our learning team will take you through our current exhibition in Da Gadderie: Polar North by Lesley Burr before using this work as inspiration to create your own polar landscape collage.

Join us at the Shetland Museum & Archives for a creative and educational workshop where your child will get the chance to make their very own krill out of paper! In this workshop, children will learn all about krill and how these tiny creatures survive in the harsh polar climates.

Fabric Narwhal Workshop for Secondary 1-4


Dive into the fascinating world of Polar Life at Shetland Museum & Archives with this exciting workshop where you can create your own Narwhal out of fabric!

Polar North Monoprint Workshop


An experimental art workshop with the artist behind the latest exhibition in Da Gadderie, Lesley Burr. Join Lesley as she shares her love of colour and playful approaches to image making using monoprinting. This technique is a form of “one-off” printmaking and can be done without a press and creates a unique image. 

Sunday 14th April, 12 - 5pm. Ticket price: £50.00. 

 

Lesley Burr - Artist's talk on Polar North exhibition


Join artist Lesley Burr where she will give a visual talk about her current exhibition in Da Gadderie inspired by the 2019 arctic residency to Baffin Island, and her connections with Shetland and the North.

Tuesday 16th April, 7 pm - 9pm. Ticket price: £5.00. 

Monoprint workshop for children


An arctic animal art workshops aimed at younger ages (7 to 12) and (13 to 18) with artist Lesley Burr.  Learn how to create your own animal prints using drawing, colour, and stencils inspired by the Polar North exhibition currently on display in Da Gadderie. 

Saturday 20th April. The morning session, 10am - 12 noon is for ages 7-12 years while the afternoon session 2pm - 4pm is for ages 13 - 18 years. Ticket price: £5.00. 
 

Arctic Connections - Shetland Museum & Archives Highlights from the 2024 St Magnus Conference


Join our Shetland Museum & Archives curators and archivists as they present their papers publicly, initially presented at the 6th International St Magnus Conference from UHI Shetland. With the theme of the conference exploring Arctic connections, the four papers presented will showcase fascinating links between our Islands and the north.
