WINTER FESTIVAL II – SOUNATE Â CEMBALO CERTATO È VIOLINO SOLO

Bach probably composed his six violin sonatas between 1717 and 1723, during his tenure as court Kapellmeister in Köthen, although they were later modified at Leipzig. No longer content with adding the solo part to a bassline, Bach instead wrote the harpsichord part out in full. During his lifetime Bach was known to have written a considerable amount of chamber music. Much of it is thought lost, and little has survived in such a complete form. One of the exceptions is the collection of six sonatas for violin and harpsichord, or more correctly the Sonatas for Harpsichord Concertante with Solo violin. Come and hear another feast of extraordinary music, surely some of the finest ever written for this combination.
