To mark the centenary of the end of World War I, two award-winning poets commemorate the conflicts of the past century and the human price paid. In a broad sweep of original poetry and prose, their acclaimed mixed media performance The Fields of War combines original poetry film and specially composed music, together with diary and memoir extracts, to evoke the losses of war from the Blitz to Bosnia, from Flanders to Iraq.
Through poems from The Book of Belongings and Dry Stone Work, plus extracts from his memoir Double Exposure, Brian Johnstone brings aspects of both World Wars vividly to life and touches on later 20th century conflicts.
Expressing her conflict of emotions with strength and conviction, Chrys Salt presents poems from the collection Home Front/Front Line, a dialogue with her son, a TA paratrooper who spent five months in action in Iraq in 2003.
The Fields of War also includes a poetry film by Alastair Cook with original music for solo cello by Rebecca Rowe, and a poem setting for tenor, harp and string quartet by Katherine Gillham together with film by Ken Smyth.
