Royal Brothers at War. Then and Now . . . .

To mark this Coronation Year, I wanted to find a play with a ‘royal’ theme. Good ones with relevant and modern themes are few and far between. ‘Crown Matrimonial’, an imagined version of the behind-the-scenes drama surrounding the Abdication Crisis of 1936 I think may fit the brief. Although written 50 years ago, and covering events over 80 years ago, the drama, intrigue and family conflict it covers now bear stark comparison to the difficulties between Princes William and Harry and their wider families. Difficulties the Media thrust into our faces at every opportunity. In 1936 it was unthinkable that a member of the Royal Family - let alone the reigning monarch – would marry a divorcee. And an American into the bargain.

Crown Matrimonial focuses mainly on the relationship between Queen Mary and King Edward (known to his family as David), but many other members of the family take part. Unusually for a tale about the Abdication, Wallis Simpson, although referred to often, does not appear.

Monday's Charity Night is supporting Yeovil Heartbeat. Since its inception its principle aim has been to establish and maintain a cardiac rehabilitation service that provides support for both in-patients and out-patients at Yeovil District NHS Foundation Trust Hospital.  Through this service, patients who have suffered a heart attack, have had heart surgery or suffer from other heart related conditions, can undergo an individualised progressive programme of exercise and education whilst being monitored by specialist cardiac nurses and physiotherapists using a multi-disciplinary approach.

Doors open 7:15 pm, show starts 7.45pm. Tickets £12.50 (£8 on Thrifty Thursday)
