International Women's Day

Back in the ring for round six, please join us for a no holds barred celebration of International Women's Day at the Acorn Penzance, on Saturday March 11th.

This year’s charity cabaret line up includes: the incomparable Jenny Bishop, who takes film score composition degrees and new babies in her long, tall stride; the fabulously fresh Miss Jones (veterans of The Albert Hall no less) and their lush soaring harmonies; Elaine Claxton, songstress, actress and one of Cornwall’s all round entertaining greats, who recently wowed audiences in The Bowie Lounge; a return of the tap-tastic Turn on the Tap troupe, plus Fiona Richardson’s award-winning Aspire dancers, not forgetting the cabaret’s in-house comedy dancers appearing this year as The Ball Breakers.

Our favourite writer/performer Jane Pugh is feverishly penning her next hilarious comedy instalment; Katrina Naomi, the most stylish poet/tutor/mentor/PhD holder this side of the Tamar, will be reading from her highly acclaimed collections; there’ll be a special delivery of inspiration and happiness from International Poetry Postie Sally Crabtree; and goodness knows what surprises the inimitable Jak Stringer has in store for us?! Add to that Joan Oliver ‘In These Shoes’, sublime a capella singing from Penny and friends, formidable films courtesy of Delpha Hudson and Stacey Guthrie, with an incredible triples cube aerial act from the amazing Airfish Aerial too.

Taking the mic as hostess with the mostess for this year is the rather marvellous Miss Dullas D’Water. She’s a cheeky madam and bally good fun, but be warned... there will be japes, there will be shenanigans! Not forgetting the terrific tombola, epic auction, and after party disco in the basement bar.

Held in celebration of women everywhere – our struggles, strengths and achievements – proceeds this year will again be going to PLAN (educating girls) refugee charities supporting women and children, and local Cornish women’s charities. Come as your favourite heroine, and bring a bra for our Big Bra Box, raising money for breast cancer research. Not just for women, men are welcome too, so spread the word and help ensure the future for girls is bright, equal, safe and rewarding. Tickets at £9/£6 conc. available through the Acorn Box Office in advance, doors open 7pm for 8pm curtain up.
