Music in the Malthouse - APPASSIONATO Amye Farrell and Rupert Egerton-Smith

We are thrilled to welcome Rupert and Amye to the next concert in our next Music in the Malthouse series.
With Sonatas for Cello and Piano by Brahms and Rachmaninov.

Rupert Egerton-Smith has a varied concert career which has included performances in Carnegie Hall, Paris’ Salle Gaveau, London clubs and Lebanese palaces. Over 1500 people attended his recital of the Bach-Busoni Chaconne and Chopin B minor sonata at the Berlin Philharmonie. France 2 broadcast his live performances of Scarlatti sonatas and Balakirev’s Islamey. Of his debut recording, the UK Daily Telegraph wrote, “the sheer technical accomplishment in Ravel’s Gaspard de la Nuit is stunning and the real strength of the disc.” He won 1st prize in the Bradshaw and Bouno piano competition and was appointed Artist-in-Residence with the Orchestra of St. John’s in 2022.

As a composer, Rupert has written for BBC and Channel 4 documentaries, short films and is currently scoring his first full feature. He collaborates with music agencies internationally and is regularly invited to compose music for major film trailers.

Future engagements include performances of Mozart 23rd Piano Concerto, Beethoven ‘Emperor’ Piano Concerto, Rachmaninov 2nd Piano Concerto, and recitals in the UK, the Middle East and New York.

Rupert Egerton-Smith is represented worldwide exclusively through Alexander & Buono International.

Amye began playing the cello when she was 6. When she was 11 she won a full scholarship to the Royal College of Music Junior Department where she studied under Elizabeth Angel and Lowri Blake. She decided not to follow a career in music and went instead to Imperial College London to study Medicine. She now practices as a GP in Exeter. Music plays a major role in her life and she holds the position of principal cello in both the Devon Philharmonic orchestra and Exeter Camerata. She has appeared as soloist with Exeter Camerata, the Dartmouth Symphony orchestra and also the EX4 Chamber orchestra. Amye loves chamber music and collaborates with lots of different groups in Devon. She plays a cello made in 2019 by Taunton based luthier James Stephenson
