The Lady's Mad, Oxford

A new play by Rebekah King

Hester Cavill is a good woman: mother, wife and a Royalist, the loyal servant of her monarch, Charles I. Her husband, on the other hand, has decided that the Cavill family will stand with the Parliamentarians: the men who are rebelling against the king.

But he's away so when a group of Parliamentarian soldiers arrives demanding aid, Hester takes matters into her own hands. She refuses them and sends their messengers away with a sound telling-off.

But getting rid of the rebels won’t be that easy.

The troops are headed by a captain like none other: Mad Moll, a charismatic female figurehead calling herself the ‘English Joan’.

As Hester fortifies her ancient walls and Moll prepares to smash them down, the members of the Cavill clan must choose their own allegiances, and Hester must prepare to reap the consequences of provoking her own private civil war.
