Human Library Lunch Time Book Cafe

The Human Library is a global innovative and hands-on learning platform. Its aim is to better society's understanding of diversity in order to help create more inclusive and cohesive communities across cultural, religious, social and ethnic differences.

On Saturday 10th February, there will be four or five different ‘human book’ titles from The Human Library available for you to ‘borrow’ in our Cafe Bar.

A ‘human book’ is a person who has volunteered to challenge prejudice through respectful conversation with participants who ‘borrow’ them. Each ‘human book’ will have a title that relates to their experience of prejudice and/or discrimination. Participants will have the chance to choose which ‘human book’ they wish to ‘borrow’ every 30 mins. They will then be allocated, potentially with a small group of fellow borrowers, to listen and ask questions of their chosen book, before moving on to the next.

The Human Library creates a safe space for a conversation where topics are discussed openly between our ‘human books’ and their readers. The event offers an opportunity to ask questions about difficult issues and challenge stereotypes.

The Human Library will begin at 12 midday on Saturday 10th February and run until 2pm. Light lunch refreshments will be available from 11:45am and throughout the session. Participants are encouraged to be there from the beginning of the session to gain an introduction but can then leave whenever they wish to.

This event is a collaboration between The Waterside Theatre and The Human Library.
