Write Up! Speak Up! @Wellslitfest - A Celebration of Words
Presented by Simon Parkin
This event offers local wordsmiths the chance to perform and have their own five minutes of fame; and it gives the audience a taste of the huge range of local talent we enjoy in Wells and beyond. Poets, writers, artists, thinkers ... all are welcome, and following last year’s success we look forward to another sensational evening, compered by broadcaster and presenter Simon Parkin. Simon’s initial plans to become an actor were discarded at the tender age of seven when he discovered being a DJ was easier than playing James Bond. He joined Radio Tees in 1987, before moving into television as a presenter of the now legendary Children’s BBC Broom Cupboard. Simon was soon seen by millions as the face of CBBC, Top of the Pops and the O-Zone, and also appeared on popular shows like Children in Need, The Word and MasterChef. Simon then became one of the launch presenters for GMTV, and since 2005 has presented the Saturday Breakfast show on BBC Somerset.
Performance entries are open to all aged 16+.
