Ghost Stories for Christmas
Like most longstanding cultural customs, the precise origin of telling ghost stories at the end of the year is unknown, largely because it began as an oral tradition without written records. During the Victorian era, it became traditional for publishers of newspapers and magazines to print ghost stories during the Christmas season for chilling winter reading by the fireside or candlelight. The first half of our evening of Ghost Stories for Christmas - stories will be told by members of Playgoers The second half of our evening of Ghost Stories for Christmas - we will be visited by ‘The Lady’ The Lady, an elegant character in full Victorian mourning dress. is played by Jane Dickens; a native Cumbrian and professional actor with 20 years storytelling experience.
