Sydney, via-Byron Bay, band Glass Towers are at the vanguard of a new wave of Australian pop/rock bands who are creating waves internationally and at home via a very Australian brand of sun-drenched melody, which carries with it an undercurrent of darkness and weight. The songwriting on Glass Towers debut album HALCYON DAYS deals with the universal struggles faced in the transition from youth to young adult-hood – most of the songs written by lead singer Ben Hannam when he was still in his early teens, and forged in the summer of 2008 with a newly formed band of High School friends.
For a band only recently arrived into their 20′s, Glass Towers have already amassed a wealth of experience. The band learned their craft across two years of relentless touring around the release of a couple of finely crafted EP’s, including 2011′s debut WHAT WE WERE, WHEN WE WERE (produced by ARIA Award winner Wayne Connolly) and 2012′s COLLARBONE JUNGLE. The EP’s bookended a series of killer radio singles and prompted more high-profile touring – from the legendary Neil Finn personally inviting the band on tour with his latest musical project Pajama Club – to national support tours with The Kooks and Metric, and Glass Towers first international dates throughout the UK and Japan.
Glass Towers list of influences runs deep. From the literary genius of Jack Kerouac to the madcap mind of Syd Barrett and effortless cool of Lou Reed, from a childhood raised on a somewhat oddball mixture of Neil Diamond, Roxy Music and Simon & Garfunkel, to the paintings of J.M.W Turner and photographs of Robert Doisneau – all of which can be heard across the stunning debut album HALCYON DAYS. The album was released to critical acclaim in Australia and Japan in 2013, winning fans and accolades such as Triple J Feature album, #1 AIR Chart Debut, Tower Records Japan Album Of The Week and Rolling Stone magazine Award nominations. HALCYON DAYS will be released globally in 2014 and the band will continue to do what they do best – to take their music to the World one amazing show at a time, and take no prisoners along the way.
