Playing and Improvising Jazz Workshop
wall2wall Jazz Festival
Saturday 28th September 2024: 2pm to 4pm
Melville Centre, Abergavenny
This workshop, led by Gareth Roberts, is designed for people of any age who would like to learn the foundations of playing and improvising jazz. It does not matter what your instrument is, we’ll be able to do something.
This may be your first foray into the world of jazz or you may be well versed in playing, but want to improve your improvisation skills. Come along with your instrument for a fun afternoon exploring how to tackle jazz.
Gareth Roberts is an experienced jazz musician, composer and educator who has been working professionally in and around the South Wales area since graduating from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in 2005.
He has released two critically acclaimed albums of original material under his own name and has also written tunes for many local big bands including The Capital City Jazz Orchestra, of whom he is a founder member.
Gareth teaches jazz trombone at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and worked as musical director of the Monmouth Big Band for 10 years.
