Meet the Author: Mick Herron

Organised in association with the Morrab Library's John le Carré Memorial Lecture.

Mick Herron is one of our best loved writers and when his books arrive at the Edge of the World, they are devoured as soon as they appear on the shelves. He is not only a bestselling and award-wining novelist but there's grit too with the Guardian calling him "The laureate of decrepitude". We're sure he will find something to love here in Penzance. Join us for an evening of top spy action, meet the author who brought us Slough House and Jackson Lamb and hear about his latest standalone spy thriller, The Secret Hours:

Trying to investigate the Secret Service is like trying to get rid of the stink of dead badger. Hard. For two years the government's Monochrome inquiry has produced nothing more than a series of dead ends.

The Service has kept what happened in the newly reunified Berlin under wraps for decades, and intends for it to stay that way. But then the OTIS file turns up. What classified secrets does it hold? And what damage will it create? All Max Janácek knows is that someone is chasing him through the pitch-dark country lanes and they want him gone.

WE ALL HAVE JOBS TO DO IN THE DAYLIGHT. IT'S WHAT YOU DO IN THE SECRET HOURS THAT REVEALS WHO YOU REALLY ARE.

Mick Herron's Slough House thrillers have been adapted into a TV series starring Oscar-winning actor Gary Oldman as Jackson Lamb. His first book, Down Cemetery Road was published in 2003. In 2008, inspired by world events, Mick began writing his Slough House series, featuring MI5 agents who have been exiled from the mainstream for various offences. The first novel, Slow Horses, was published in 2010 and later was hailed by the Daily Telegraph as one of 'the twenty greatest spy novels of all time.'

The Slough House novels have won both the CWA Steel and Gold Daggers; have been shortlisted for the Theakstons Crime Novel of the Year four times.

The Secret Hours was a 'Book of the Year' in The Times, Sunday Times, Guardian, Observer, Daily Telegraph, Spectator, Sunday Express, TLS, Irish Times*'Pure class' Ian Rankin 'Pitch-perfect' Lee Child'A powerful standalone spy thriller from a true contemporary master' Daily Telegraph

'Wonderful... high action, a spinning moral compass, and hidden motives on every page'  Michael Connelly.

Hot off of his evening at the Acorn Theatre in the inaugural John le Carre Memorial Lecture join us as 'the laureate of decrepitude comes to town.'  The Guardian.
