Coming September 15th at The Heritage Hotel, Bulli
The Hot Potato Band found their roots and musical inspiration in Sydney's southern suburbs as street performers running over 120 shows a year all around Australia. An incredible performance at Festival Of The Sun 2013 opened the doors to new ideas and opportunities which were further realised after a collaboration with Dylan Wright in 2014 and furthermore with vocalist Benjamin Goldstein from 2017. Anything could happen! Known to cause a severe case of happy fever, this 11 piece brass band is sure to put a smile on your face in an incredibly unique live show. The Hot Potato Band have become one of the most celebrated street and stage performing bands in Australia. From large scale festivals to intimate venues they have successfully captured the energy and interaction of their street performances and perfectly integrated it into their on stage show. Describing the bands sound has been no easy feat. Combining world influences such as ska, blues, afro-cuban, pop, reggae and folk into a New Orleans inspired brass band with an Australian edge may classify the band as 'multi-genre', however, the constant joy they bring to audiences leave many suggesting a new genre of 'Happy'. Beware, as they make you the centre of their performance… literally! The bands unique sound comes from the absence of a single drum kit, bass guitar and electrified instruments. Three drummers create synchronised grooves on what would be a deconstructed drum kit. The bass lines are covered by an enormous, lung busting Sousaphone. Two baritone saxophones mimic the part of a rhythm guitar and the bands huge array of horns cover catchy chorus lines and provide a beautiful harmonic cloud for Ben (the vocalist) to float above. Members of the band include: Simon Ghali (Drums), James Swanson (Drums), Marc Malliate (Drums), Daniel Moore (Sousaphone), Peter Orenstein (Baritone Sax), Bernard Lagana (Baritone Sax), James Mackay (Tenor Sax), Edward Tan (Alto Sax), Nicholas Calligeros (Trumpet), Max Mallen-Cooper (Trombone), Benjamin Goldstein (Vocals). The bands latest album release is 'Paint The Town'. It was recorded in Sydney at DASH Productions, along with an accompanying music video for their single 'Sail Away', filmed in Cronulla by Epik Films. Previously, the band released a 5 track EP including three original tunes and two covers of popular Australian artists.
Doors open at 7pm
