Lunchtime Concert - Richard Uttley (piano), Mathilde Milwidsky (violin), Ben Tarlton (cello)

Programme to be announced

British pianist Richard Uttley studied at Cambridge University, graduating from Clare College with a Double First in Music, and at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama with Martin Roscoe. Noted for the integrity of his musicianship as soloist, chamber musician and recording artist in a wide range of repertoire, Richard has been recognised for his ‘musical intelligence and pristine facility’ (International Record Review), ‘amazing decisiveness’, and ‘tumultuous performance’ (Daily Telegraph).

Named a 2023 Classic FM Rising Star and One to Watch by Gramophone Magazine, violinist Mathilde Milwidsky has been praised by The Strad’s Charlotte Gardner for her “perfect intonation and beautiful shaping and colouring, comprehensively nailing each new stylistic and emotional universe as she went”. Born in London and of Brazilian, French and Lithuanian heritage, she was the sole British violinist to be selected for the 2024 Queen Elisabeth Violin Competition, during which the Belgian national newspaper Le Soir praised her performance for its ’mastery and musicality’. In 2019 she was awarded 3rd Prize and a Special Prize at the prestigious Windsor Festival International String Competition, and in 2021 and 2022 Mathilde was invited to the Verbier Festival Academy on the Soloist & Chamber Music Programme, as one of only seven violinists chosen worldwide.

Ben Tarlton is a London based cellist and enjoys a varied career as a soloist, chamber musician, teacher and festival director. Born in Wales, Ben studied with Sharon McKinley and Alexander Baillie before attending the Yehudi Menuhin School to study with Thomas Carroll. He completed his Bachelor’s and Master’s at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama with Louise Hopkins, supported by Help Musicians UK and The Countess of Munster Trust.  In 2020, as a part of a BBC Radio 3 “Total Immersion” Concert in Milton Court Concert Hall, he gave the UK premiere of Anders Hillborg’s “Duo” for Cello and Piano in 2020, on which The Guardian commented, “playing with extraordinary precision and insight.”
