Jay Phelps Quartet - Jazz

Jay Phelps (trumpet), Rick Simpson (piano), Mark Lewandowski (bass) and Moses Boyd (drums). Led by Jay Phelps, co-founder of Empirical, the quartet is a group of young musicians dedicated to contemporary jazz music. They are playing jazz today with a clear understanding of what is both modern and traditional. Frequently, this fresh and exciting band mixes their set with original compositions from the band leader and some arranged standard material.

“Trumpeter Jay Phelps is an acrobatic solo displayer, cutting and fiery, and certainly not afraid of extended bouts of self-expression” – Martin Longley, BBC
