James Wilton Dance - Workshops

Workshops will offer a unique insight into James Wilton Dance's work, teaching participants new physical, creative and team skills. Due to the subject matter of The Storm, JWD will engage participants with discussion on mental health through creative dialogue. Mental health can be a taboo talking point, however art and creating art can be a way of engaging with a subject matter without even realising it.

Workshops with James Wilton Dance are energetic, engaging and inspiring. The physicality of the movement, which shares a lot in common with martial arts and capoeira, is accessible and enjoyable for participants, whilst still being fresh, new and challenging.
Workshops can be tailored for any age group/ability, including professionals dancers.

James Wilton Dance, one of Europe’s most in demand dance companies, presents The Storm, a whirlwind of lightning fast, athleticism, where acrobatics, break-dancing, martial arts and contact work fuse to form dance that will blow audiences away.
Seven dancers, a soundtrack of thundering electro-rock especially composed by Amarok and thousands of pieces of paper combine to create a work that will astound you with its athleticism and touch you emotionally in a way that words simply can’t.
In this storm can you find peace? Can you find the calm eye of the storm? Will it all blow over?

The Storm is co-commissioned by Blackpool Grand, Creative Barking and Dagenham, DanceEast, Pavilion Dance South West, Queens Hall Hexham, The Gulbenkian (Art31), The Place, Swindon Dance, Tanz Ist and Warwick Arts Centre, with support from Arts Council England Grant for the Arts.
